Welcome to the first installment of Matt Gholson’s Fireside Chats. In the grand tradition of Franklin D. Roosevelt who calmed peoples fears by speaking to them in a straightforward manor. So right now I want to talk to you about Liberalism.
First off liberal is not a dirty word. Calling someone a liberal is not an insult. No matter how many times Sean Hannity calls someone a liberal with a thick layer of disdain on his voice it is not an insult.
Secondly liberals are not morally ambiguous people who act without honor and decencies Because of the Republican machines extensive propaganda and the extensive witch hunt of Bill Clinton people seem to associate a lack of morals with Liberals and the democratic party. It’s just not true, it seems to me to be very dark road when one group of people start declaring themselves morally superior to another group.
Thirdly liberals are not all, as the governator would say, Girly men. All liberals are not a bunch of X-hippies who set around and talk about their feelings all day. Why are the Conservatives always painted as the big good looking American football playing types, while Liberals all look like squirrelly little glasses wearing intellectuals who couldn’t hold their own in a fight.
So what is a liberal, well here is a good definition a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties Now tell me what I so bad about that, essential goodness of the human race, sounds like we sure are a positive bunch. See the republicans are negative, they think the human race is a flawed and weak creature mostly incapable of making their own decisions.
Because of the way the conservatives have blasted their message out it becomes difficult for the liberals to define themselves, they are constantly being defined by talking heads. I think it’s time we start changing that. The answer is not arguing, they always win the arguments. The answer this time is violence. Just punch a conservative republican in the head! It’s the only way to prove to them we are not a bunch of girly sissies,
