Illinois' Governor Rod Blagojevich pens new law to give teens a sense of direction.

-Springfield

The new community service law will require all high school seniors to work 40 hours a week performing community service.  A spokesman for the governor said the law is intended to teach these children who are about to become adults about everyone's responsibility to their communities and the larger community of the state.  The spokesman went on to add that since the state is initiating this law for the benefit of young people why not profit on it as well.

The spokesman was referring to the controversial part of the law that requires students to fulfill their community service in state ran sweatshops.

Corporations from all over the nation have already placed orders from the new sweatshops or items as various as soccer balls to designer fashions.  Nike has already placed an order for it's Jordan line of shoes saying having them made in America will be a great boost to their image.  On the other hand critics say Nike is only interested in the bottom-line saying that teenage slave labor will help lower production and shipping costs to bring the cost that Nike pays for one pair of 109 dollar shoes to 3 dollars.

What have the students go to say about this?  Meg Charles a senior at East side High in Perioa Illinois says she was originally excited about sewing sleeves for Aeropostale sweatshirts but was later totally bummed out about the harsh lashing that followed not meeting her quota of 250 sleeves.

Some parents have expressed displeasure with the law saying that their kids will miss out on extra curricular activities like sports and proper nutrition.  Other parents are pleased to know their kids will be working to bring down the states debt,  "It's better then a tax hike," quoted one Hardin County resident.

POST SCRIPT:  This story is of course a joke, but sweatshops are not.  Millions of people are forced to work in atrocious conditions around the world to scrape out a living for their selves.  Worse of all children are often taken advantage of by the corporations and businesses who have their items made by people working in such horrible conditions.  I got the idea to write this article after hearing kids whine about the new community service law.  I thought it would be funny for them to compare their lives to that of a Indonesian sweatshop laborer working for 3 cents an hour.  If they thought about they would realize they have no right to complain.

By the way no disrespect to Rod, so far I think he's been doing a wonderful job
