About the Viable Hiatus

#1 What is with the name, how did you come up with that.

Ok heres the lame story in it’s entirety. A friend I worked with for years,
Chris Beal, used to do this corny thing when ever I would walk into work. He
would use some huge vocabulary word to describe something. For example,
Gholson, it sure is a luminescent day outside. Or Gholson we have a plethora
of work to do today. Or Gholson you certainly look radiant today. You get the
idea. So it turned into a game of one upsmanship where I would try to use
bigger vocabulary words then him. One day we were about to go on break, he
said, “Gholson, I believe it would be a viable time to take a Hiatus.” I said
ok lets go on a viable hiatus. I knew that I would never top that so in honor
of him winning the vocabulary game I named my new website I was building after
the word. See I told you it was lame.

#2 What is the point of this web site.

This site has changed a great deal over it's inception around 2001. At first I planned it to be a travel log for Southern Illinois, but it ended up becoming more of a fake funny news site. It was popular among my coworkers and friends but never really got much web traffic because I didn't work on it enough and was very loose with my web design. Here recently I became interested in publishing my photographs and other artwork on the website, but ran into a problem. After posting it on a few forums for reviews I got anonymous feedback that the pictures were great but the website was a joke which really degraded my pictures. So I started redesigning the site. And that is what I am doing right now.

#3 If a tree fell in the woods when no one was around did it make a sound.

Depends on your definition of the word sound. Air was moved in certain
patterns by the falling tree, if you call these patterns noise then Yes. If
you call sound the response our brain creates when the auditory nerves are
stimulated by these patterns of moving air then No.
